Free Cell Phones For Disabled People
Disabled people often live on low income. This is due to them being unable to work due to their disability and therefore can only receive SSI.
With their limited income, disabled people cannot afford more luxurious services such as cell phones. Yet, disabled people can really benefit from having a cell phone. Cell phones can be used in times of emergencies.
In order to help disabled people, the government has a program where the disabled can get free cell phones. But to get the free cell phones, disabled people need to be in the low income bracket. If you are already drawing benefits from other social programs like the food stamps program, then you would qualify for a free phone.
These free cell phones are sponsored by the government but have a limited amount of minutes to use for free each month. You get about 60 minutes free depending on the state that you live in. If you wanted to use more minutes then you would have to buy prepaid minutes.
Every year you have to re-qualify for the free phones. The cellular provider would need to see documentation showing that you are still in the low income bracket.
To sign up for a free cell phone, you can go to Safelink Wireless. Not every state has the free cell phone program, so you can check their website to see if your state has it.
Fill out and submit the application for a free phone along with your supporting income documentation. The documentation should include pay stubs, tax returns, letter of employment, and documentation showing that you are receiving other social benefits.
If you do not use all the free minutes each month, it will roll over to the next month. That way you can save unused minutes for when a real emergency comes along.
